BIPOC Body Positivity Group

This is an 8-week group providing education and support to uncover the messages that have influenced your relationship with food, exercise and body. You will build the tools and skills to accept and trust your body while practicing intuitive eating and exercise. By the end of this group you will be able to  acknowledge influences that have contributed to your current perspective of your body and identify shifts in perspective that can cultivate acceptance of your body.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group

Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group is beginning a new cohort! This skills-based psychotherapy group will help you learn and implement tangible skills such as emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness/assertiveness training, and mindfulness.

Our DBT group is also an excellent adjunct to treatment for clients who are engaged in their own individual therapy. This group flows in cycles of 8 sessions over 8 weeks.


The DetailS:

  • When: Tuesdays at 6:00PM EST beginning November 7th

  • Where: Held virtually on our secure video platform

  • Who: Led by Jamie Tanzer, lmsw

  • Investment: For clients with Wellfleet or Aetna Student Health insurance, the cost per group is a standard group therapy copay (starting at just $7 per session). For out-of-network clients, rates are $75 per session and may be reimbursable by your health insurance.


Participants Will Learn:

  • Mindfulness: Understanding what it is, how it works, and how to build a strong foundation of mindfulness skills.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills: Improving boundary-setting, communication skills, and self-respect and meeting interpersonal goals.

  • Distress Tolerance: Learning tangible skills to manage stress, self-soothe, and practice acceptance.

  • Emotion Regulation: Understanding the theory of emotion dysregulation and how to identify, describe, and manage emotions effectively.

what is dbt?:

DBT, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is a type of psychotherapy that combines elements of cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. DBT emphasizes skills acquisition in areas such as distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness to promote healthy coping mechanisms and improve overall wellbeing.

This support group is specifically tailored to those struggling with societally imposed masculine beauty and body standards. You can expect to leave this group feeling more deeply attuned with your body, unburdened of societal expectations, and unified with a community of people that share similar struggles. This group seeks to offer a space of support and camaraderie for all in it.

  • Uncover the influences that have contributed to their current feelings towards their bodies

  • Learn how to practice intuitive eating, exercise, and self-care

  • Explore self-talk and thought patterns that contribute to self-image

  • Learn how to tune into and listen to their bodies

  • Discuss how past traumas, social and cultural pressures, and intergenerational trauma may impact them

Support group for Chinese international students

Support group for Chinese international students

This is an 8-week support group for Chinese international students to share their stories and process their feelings about navigating their life in the US. Studying abroad isn’t easy, and everyday nuances can become overwhelming. Oftentimes, we think we are struggling alone but this group will help us connect with people who are in similar situations and support each other to get better. This virtual group will make space for conversations around cultural differences and navigating our own identity. We will also discuss and identify coping strategies and resources that will help participants with their personal stressors (pandemic, cultural shock, identity issues, academic pressure, relationship issues, navigating US higher education system, etc).

Investment: $65/session self-pay OR we also work directly with colleges and universities throughout the five boroughs and are preferred, in-network providers for Sarah Lawrence, School of Visual Arts, New York University and Columbia University.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

This is an 8-week course running on Wednesdays from March 10th-April 28th 5:30-6:45 PM (the first session will be 90 minutes). Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy was developed for treating depression and studies have shown it to be as effective as antidepressant medication in its ability to prevent future episodes of depression! This course is designed to set you up for success so that after 8 weeks you feel confident in your ability to keep up a daily mindfulness practice.

Time: Mondays 5:30 PM EST

Investment: $75/session self-pay OR we also work directly with colleges and universities throughout the five boroughs and are preferred, in-network providers for Sarah Lawrence, School of Visual Arts, New York University and Columbia University.

Ramadan Group

Ramadan Group

This group will run for 7 weeks (Between April 5 - May 17). This group is open to any and all that identify as Muslim regardless of whether you are actively practicing or not and regardless of which sect you may belong to. This group is specifically open to reverts/converts and Queer identifying Muslims who may be struggling with isolation during this month. The group will be a drop-in space that focuses on: The impact of acculturation on religious identity, Feelings of shame/guilt associated with not fasting, Family/community being emotional triggers, Mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and disordered eating that may arise as a result of fasting and Overall nurturing a sense of community. Group members are encouraged to attend weekly meetings to encourage group cohesion.

Time: 12PM EST

Day: Saturday
